Tribute to Mother Retha Woody

Jan 27, 1927 - October 29, 2009

A Loving Tribute to Mother Retha Mae (Harvey) Woody

As a loving tribute to Mother Retha Mae (Harvey) Woody, let us tell of the life of our Church Mother.  We are honoring her and what better way to do that than by being reminded of her life today on her birthday, she would be 83 years young today.

Let us speak of her family.  They were dear to her heart, and in words and deeds she showed everyone just how dear.  There was never a question about her love; it was unselfish, and generous to all.  Truly today her children "arise up, and call her blessed" (Prov. 31:28).

Many times we find it easy to love those who are kin, blood relatives, but this one we pay tribute to today loved far beyond the circle of her own relatives.  Her love included many friends who benefited from her care.  One of her qualities she possessed which made her a true friend was her spirit.  She never complained, was not negative, and did not condemn others.  If a friend shared a mistake or shortcoming, her response was not shocked put-down but an encouragement to do better next time.

It is important that "all things should be done decently and in order" (1 Cor. 14:40).  She conducted her business affairs well, and her personal appearance was always Divalicious, including her ready smile.

She worked consistently to be a good citizen of the community.  She helped to strengthen, not weaken.

The church certainly played an important role in her life.  Her service as Church Mother is well known.  Her faithful support of its programs and her record attendance proved her love for this church.

Mother Retha Mae (Harvey) Woody, who passed away on October 29, 2009, at 11:09 p.m. served faithfully to this church and her community.  She placed her body, mind, soul and possessions unhesitatingly at God's disposal without any reservations.

She invested all her life for God and dedicated her whole life to God's glory.  Her life's work spread from her home, into society, into the community at large.  As a member of this church, her testimony was always constructive and faithful.

The love of Christ, and for Christ, was the mainspring of her life.  Her heart had but one throne, and Christ sat upon that throne.
Christ was her all in all; she had...
a heart through which God loved,
a voice through which God spoke,
a hand through which God helped.

Surely we could continue to name many more accolades of our dear Mother, Mother of this Church.  If time and opportunity were given, each of us could tell of specific times and places when our lives were touched by hers.

She lives in our memories and what greater tribute could be than for us to share her love, joy, giving, positive spirit, and her smile as we continue to serve our families, friends, communities, church and our Lord in Mother Woody's honor.

Her whole life was dedicated to God.  We shall miss her, but we pray another will be inspired to carry on in the work of the Lord as she did so passionately.
